Makeup 101- Foundation for Ethnic skin

To my beautiful ladies out there with caramel, hazelnut, chocolate, mocha, you name it skin complexion, one of the key things to a great makeup is foundation that works for you.

"Hazelnut and Cocoa complexion"First thing when it comes to foundation, you always want to prep the skin, before anything. It’s like tiling a floor without no grout.

Making sure you moisture with the appropriate one for your skin type. Also with a foundation, I can’t live without my primer, this is my saving grace for a long day a work, keeps the face looking smooth, and your makeup won’t move, until you punch out of work or a night on the town.

It can be painful trying to find the right foundation for your complexion. I know when it comes to this it definitely isnt the easiest thing, but I find that if your not sure of this, most of the major cosmetic companies give samples.

This is you best option because may not be sure of colour and even texture. Make sure you identify if your undertone is more cool or warm. It’s quite embarassing to look ashy and grey, and that is one of my major biggest pet peeves when it comes to makeup for ethnic women.

Also understanding that foundation comes in a lot of different textures and finishes. Personally I love a foundation that gives more of a dewy satin finish . It gives the skin more of a “skin like” finish.

Apart of choosing the right foundation is getting the right concealer to go with it. When concealing under eyes opt for a shade with a warmer tone, especially if you are trying to concealer dark circles. A warmer tone  will cancel that bluey grey undertone, and brighten the area as well.  Concealing anywhere else on the face that has a dark cast or spots? still use the warmer tone.

Now with your foundation and concealer, it’s not really necessary to go for a powder on top, even though I find a lot of women tend to go for that, unless you really want a matte look, try only powdering your t-zone, and letting the skin have a bit of sheen to it.  Mineral powders are gorgeous especially because they don’t give a cakey look, and they have a beautiful luminous finish.

The finishing touch…One of my most favourite products on the planet, is a finishing spray.  After applying everything you just give your skin a refreshing boost.  It automatically hydrates the skin and gets ride of that “makeup look”. The wondrous thing is that it doesn’t disturb the makeup, and it’s almost like hair spray for the face because also your makeup lasts all day.

How does your beauty day start? What steps do you do in order to achieve your look?

What could you do in order to change up your look?

Your face says it all… Take the time to find something that is right just for you.

6 Tips to Having the Best Hair of Your Life.

6 Tips to Having Great Looking Hair.

These are just a few quick tips that I have put together for all of you who have been wondering “How do I get my hair to look its’ best?”

Helen of Troy's Secret. Silk or Satin?

 1. First either get yourself a silk or satin or satin pillow case to sleep on or silk or satin scarf to wrap your hair at night time while you sleep. Silk and     satin are the only fabrics that will help to retain moisture, and reduce breakage of your precious locks!

Doing the Trim.

2. This should go without saying, but plan to trim your hair regularly; say every 6 wks to 8 weeks maximum between trims.  Trimming your hair regularly will actually cause it grow!  So get with the trimming!

Honesty Check.

3. Now please take a moment and go to the mirror and take a good look at your hair.  Is it time for a cut?  Be honest now.  We all at times get complacent with how our hair looks at times, with various excuses for not getting a cut, when we really need one.  If you say anything less, than your hair looks so fantastic it should be used in a hair commercial…go get a haircut! Your hair will thank you for it, as well as your self esteem.

Reality Check

4. Now, back to the mirror and hands to your head, feel your hair and play around with it…How over processed is your hair today?  Relax on the processing okay, because, as you can tell if you have fallen victim to over processing, much of your hair’s own natural strength get’s weakened with too much processing, resulting in dry, scraggly looking hair, not silky and  smooth  like it should be.  Try texturizing your hair or be brave and go it naturally. Your hair will love you for it.

To Shampoo or Not to Shampoo?

5. The surprising fact about shampoo, not all shampoos are good and in fact can leave your hair very dry and brittle.  Don’t allow your hair to get twisted and tangled with a poor shampoo, use shampoos that are more moisturizing and nourishing to the hair.  This small change can make a real difference between dry, dull hair and a soft head of hair that glimmers in the sun.

Helen of Troy’s Secret.

6. And the last and one of the most important tips to have great looking hair:  TREATMENT, TREATMENT, TREATMENT!  Especially if you have black or curly hair, or both, our hair lacks moisture and doing regular treatments is like taking your hair to the spa!  A great at home hair treatment is simply steaming you hair with olive oil before you are going to shampoo your hair.  Read the legends of Helen of Troy if you don’t believe me what an amazing mane of hair you too can have by adding this to your hair care routine.  Simply moisturize some olive oil onto your hair, down to your scalp, wrap with a plastic bag or saran wrap, and then wrap again with a towel and leave it on for at least 3 hrs.  This will help to repair and strengthen your hair and add a lot of shine as well.

Follow these 6 steps I gave you and trust me, you will see an amazing difference in your hair.
